The Smoking Gun of High Treason
or Is It That The President Can Do Whatever He Wants?
What kind of person makes a face like this?
Where has his arrogance taken us?
Arrogance: the "offensive
exhibition of
assumed superiority. Overbearing pride." "haughtiness, insolence,
disdain."
I
just heard Bush's ex-Press Secretary, Scott MacClellan,
say he was told by Bush himself that it was he (The President of
the
US) who authorized the outing of CIA agent, Valerie Plame,
through articles by right-wing commentator, Robert Novak.
See http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-mcclellan30-2008may30,0,6516974.story
(Amazing stuff on Keith Oberman - CNBC at
5:00 PM tonight.)
Outing (revealing publicly) a CIA agent
in war-time is high treason
under the law.
Doing so for political reasons of
revenge, to intimidate other
reporters or whistle-blowers and to slide the US into a $3 Trillion
war that has killed and maimed one million human beings, all
based on lies, is surely treasonable. If outing a CIA agent who
specialized in collecting information on the nuclear weapons
capabilities of our enemies is not treason, what is?
"Scottie
McC: But the other defining moment was in early April 2006, when I learned
that the President had secretly declassified the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq
for the
Vice President and Scooter Libby to anonymously disclose to reporters. And we had been
out there talking about how seriously the President took the selective leaking of
classified
information. And here we were, learning that the President had authorized the very same
thing
we had criticized.
"Viera: Did you talk to the President and say why are you doing this?
"Scottie McC: Actually, I did. I talked about the conversation we had. I walked onto
Air
Force One, it was right after an event we had, it was down in the south, I believe it was
North
Carolina. And I walk onto Air Force One and a reporter had yelled a question to the
President trying to ask him a question about this revelation that had come out during the
legal
proceedings. The revelation was that it was the President who had authorized, or, enable
Scooter
Libby
to go out there and talk about this information. And I told the President that that's what
the
reporter was asking. He was saying that you, yourself, was the
one that authorized the leaking
of
this information. And he said "yeah, I did."
And I was kinda taken aback"

Initially, Bush has told the Special Prosecutor and the
Press that who ever authorized the leak of Valerie
Plame's name as a CIA agent should be found out and punished. What
does he say now?)
Valerie Plame, the CIA agent whose
employment was revealed
in 2003, was married to Ambassador Joe Wilson. It was Wilson
who was sent to Africa by the CIA to find out if Iraq was really buying
materials for a nuclear weapons' program. He came back and
told the CIA he had not discovered such evidence and that the
proof the White House was using to sell the war was false. When
the White House persisted with the lies to sell the war, Ambassador
Wilson published his findings in the New York Times. The
White
House retaliated and got Robert Novak to disclose that Wilson's
wife worked for the CIA. He also released tot he public the name
of the company that Valerie Plame worked for and highlighted
its probable connection to the CIA. "After the name of the
company
was broadcast ..., administration officials confirmed that it was a
CIA front.
"The inadvertent disclosure of the name of a business
affiliated with the CIA
underscores the potential damage to the agency and its operatives caused by the leak of
Plame's identity. Intelligence officials have said that once Plame's job as an undercover
operative was revealed, other agency secrets could be unraveled and her sources might
be compromised or endangered. A former diplomat who spoke on condition of anonymity
said ... that every foreign intelligence service would run Plame's name through its
databases
within hours of its publication to determine if she had visited their country and to
reconstruct
her activities. "That's why the agency is so sensitive about just publishing her
name,"
the former diplomat said."

OUTING A CIA AGENT IS A HIGH CRIME
Some right-wingers claim Valerie Plame was a
low-ranking
desk jockey at the CIA. In fact, her outing had far-reaching
consequences in the gathering of valid anti-terrorist intelligence.
She was part of a large very secret counter-terrorism information
collection group in the CIA. Her mission was tracking down and
eliminating weapons of mass destruction.
"The federal statute making it
a criminal penalty to
knowingly divulge the
identity of anyone working
undercover for the Central
Intelligence Agency was
not enacted in a vacuum. In
the early 1970s...a former
CIA employee named Philip
Agee wrote a book revealing
the identities of several
dozen CIA employees, many
under deep cover and some
including agency station
chiefs in foreign
capitals...Richard Welch, a brilliant
Harvard-educated classicist,
had been stationed in z
Greece as CIA station chief
only a few months before
he was murdered, by a radical
Greek terrorist organization
called the 17th of November,
in the doorway of his house
in Athens on Dec. 23,
1975." Agee divulged names that
pointed to Welch being a CIA
agent. As a result he was killed.
)
Under the 1982 Intelligence
Identities Protection Act (IIPA),
it is a felony to knowingly
divulge the identity of a covert
CIA operative. It
carries a 10 year prison sentence and
a $50,000 fine. Where are the so-called right-wing patriots
now when they should be
condemning Bush, Rove, Cheney,
Liddy, et al.?
Bush last year commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby,
Cheney's chief of staff, to buy his silence in the matter
of the
outing of Valerie Plame. Obstruction of justice
is a crime.
It is what forced Nixon to resign or be impeached.
Bush was
at the center of the cover-up of the outing of Valerie
Plame.
Bush is a moral coward. He
knowingly sent Scott McClellan
to lie for him. So now it's up to Congress.
The Republicans who
know scurry around Congress are not like Howard Baker
in
Nixon's day. They are low-lifers who put party
above country
every day of the week. They are matched by the
likes of Nancy
Pelosi among Democrats who lack the courage to take
on an
arrogant President who would be an absolute monarch
like
Louis XIV who proudly proclaimed he was not above the
law,
he was the law. "L'État, c'est moi"
("I am the State").
If this is not impeachable, then nothing
is. What will Speaker
Nancy Pelosi do now? She should, of course, immediately start
impeachment proceedings. We will see if the House Judiciary
Committee holds hearings soon. Nancy Pelosi gives no |
indication that she will change her policies of giving Bush
almost $200 billion to continue the war and not permit impeachment
proceedings to start. She calls the war a "big lie".
But if it
is such a big lie, why does she do NOTHING to end it. I
wish her
challengers success in ousting her from office this Fall in San
Francisco.
Pelosi is no different than Bush or
Cheney is disregarding
the will of 65% of Americans to end the war at once. And
she is
not different than Scalia on the Supreme Court who gave the
Presidency to Bush in 2000, despite Gore's having a half million
more votes than Bush. Scalia's arrogant response to his
critics:
"Get over it."
Yes, people are furious at the arrogant
crooks and thieves that
run Washington. An outsider like Obama, for all
his flaws, can
not possibly do a worse job of running the country than the
arrogant bunch now in charge.
From MSNBC website:
Former Whote House Spokesman is " making explosive election-year charges about how
the
White House
handled the Valerie Plame case and built the case for invading Iraq".
McClellan said he became disillusioned when he realized he was just a pawn in
the never-ending
political game. The larger message has been
sort of lost in the mix. ... The White House would
prefer I not speak out openly and honestly about my experiences, but I believe there is a
larger
purpose, Scott McClellan, the chief spokesman for the White House from 2003 to 2006,
told
TODAY co-host Meredith Vieira exclusively during his first interview since excerpts of his
new
memoir hit the Internet on Tuesday. "McClellan
said that it wasn't until he realized that he
may
have been led to deliver false information to the media about two senior administration
officials roles in outing Valerie Plame as a CIA operative that he knew he would
someday
have
to tell his story."
The
American Media Must Be More
Than
A Propaganda Arm of The White House
It is high time the
media stop giving scare-mongering, war-mongering Presidents a
free ride as they start wars or have the CIA overthrow popularly elected foreign
governments.
Here is an article written before the Iraq war about Bush. It was exactly on target.
But
the media cowardly props up and legitimizes an arrogant President and the damage to the
US alone is horrendous. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0122-08.htm
The Libby Pardon
"Not
everybody agrees on every detail of Constitutional interpretation, but James
Madison
and George Mason have opinions that ought to carry a little
weight, since they
wrote
the thing. And they both thought impeachment would be
applicable if a president were
ever
to pardon someone for a crime that he himself had something to do with."

When
Bush
pardoned Libby for the obstruction of justice charge in the matter of the outing
of
Valierie Plame, he brought onto himslef yet another reason for being impeached.
Libby
lied
and refused to cooperate in the investigation to protect the Vice President and the
President.
Libby was Chief of Staff of the Vice President. He has been pardoned to
keep
him of testifying honestly.
In June 2008, Dennis Kucinich introduced the
following article of impeachment along with 34 others: In his
conduct while President of the United States, George W. Bush, in violation of his
constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States
and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the
United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty under Article II, Section 3 of
the Constitution "to take care that the laws be faithfully executed", has both
personally and acting through his agents and subordinates, together with the Vice
President,
(1) suppressed material information;
(2) selectively declassified information for the improper purposes of retaliating
against a whistleblower and presenting a misleading picture of the alleged threat from
Iraq;
(3) facilitated the exposure of the identity of Valerie Plame Wilson who had
theretofore been employed as a covert CIA operative;
(4) failed to investigate the improper leaks of classified information from within his
administration;
(5) failed to cooperate with an investigation into possible federal violations
resulting from this activity; and
(6) finally, entirely undermined the prosecution by commuting the sentence of Lewis
Libby citing false and insubstantial grounds, all in an effort to prevent Congress and the
citizens of the United States from discovering the deceitful nature of the President's
claimed justifications for the invasion of Iraq.
In facilitating this exposure of classified information and the subsequent cover-up, in
all of these actions and decisions, President George W. Bush has acted in a manner
contrary to his trust as President, and subversive of constitutional government, to the
prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the
United States. Wherefore, President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an
impeachable offense warranting removal from office." |
Rep. Kucinich Files 35 Impeachment Articles against Bush
"Representative Dennis
Kucinich, Democrat-Ohio, defied the chiefs of his party on Monday by preparing 35 articles
of impeachment against the United States President, George W. Bush. Most of those articles
are related to United States war launched by Bush in Iraq.
"Kucinich, a former presidential candidate, presented his intention to
propose more than two dozen articles against Bush on the floor of the U.S. House of
Representatives. He accused the current U.S. President of implementing a "calculated
and wide-ranging strategy" to mislead U.S. citizens and Congress into believing that
Iraq posed an imminent threat to our nation and that Saddam Hussein had ties with the 9/11
attacks.
"However, the impeachment attempt against Bush isnt expected to
have much success. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly underlined the fact that such
an attempt would be divisive and most likely unsuccessful.
"Kucinich had a similar attempt in April 2007 when he tried to impeach
Vice president Dick Cheney. The outspoken Iraq war critic failed to move that resolution
forward."

Scott said, "I really like Kucinich. Too bad that not
being bought by corporate america means no air time on corporate american media."Ian said, "Impeachment now is almost an insult after he
has been allowed to run amok with impunity, but its got to happen. There must be
accountability for the actions of the presidency and not only should George W. Bush be
impeached but he should be tried for high treason as co-conspirator of the events of
September 11, 2001 and tried as a war criminal!"
gmknobl said, "
This is a mistake that the
democrats and the U.S. will rue for a long time to come. Proceedings
should have begun a long time ago and everyone in the admin who had a connection with the
deliberate lies leading up to the Iraq War should be impeached or criminally prosecuted if
at all legally possible.
By not impeaching we are sending a notice to the world
that we know they are corrupt but we dont care. We are telling the
world that we live in a double standard where we can do what we want yet tell everyone
else to do something different. This non-impeachment further erodes our good will in the
world, if indeed, we have any good will left.
What the heck is she waiting for? Until
she gets paid extra money for pursuing it? And as far as holding to some bargain with the
Repugs, theres no point since they havent held to any bargains with the Dems
anyway. Something is fishy. I think someone should follow the money on this issue."

CNN reporter talks of pressure to be patriotic
By DAVID BAUDER
"CNN
correspondent Jessica Yellin said Thursday she was referring to her time spent at MSNBC when she said she felt pressure
not to report stories critical of the Bush administration during the time leading up to
the Iraq war.
"Yellin's initial comments, made during a discussion with Anderson Cooper on CNN Wednesday, shifted
attention to the news media's performance following release of a critical assessment of
the Bush administration by former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan.
He wrote that Bush's strategy for selling the war was less than candid and honest.
"During her CNN appearance, Yellin said the press corps
was under enormous pressure from corporate executives to make sure the war was presented
"in a way that was consistent with the patriotic fever in the nation and the
president's high approval ratings."
The higher Bush's approval ratings, the more pressure
she felt from news executives to put on positive stories about the president, she said.
Pushed by Cooper to explain, Yellin said her bosses would turn down critical stories about
the administration and try to put on positive pieces.
"The charges against MSNBC aren't new, however. A
prime-time show with Phil Donahue received consistent pressure to present panels
tilted in favor of the war, said Jeff Cohen, that program's former senior producer.
Donahue's show was on for less than a year before being cancelled less than a month before
the war began. He once witnessed a producer scolded for organizing a discussion with pro-
and anti-war sentiments presented equally, said Cohen, a liberal activist who wrote a book
about his experiences with TV networks...
"McClellan offered criticism of the media's
performance. He said reporters were "complicit enablers" by covering the
preparations for war instead of more aggressively questioning the need for it."

The Media
Has Already To Started To Call McClellan "Traitor"
"I guess
that last vestige of decency is gone," said Ari Fleischer, who was Bush's first press
secretary.
"Marlin Fitzwater, press secretary for both Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, said people are
free to
think and say whatever they want, but the unwritten rule for presidential advisers is to
wait
until the
president is out of office before publishing a book. (POr until after
the next election,
so that 4
more years will go by before people find out the truth!)
" If a presidential spokesman finds the White House policy so distasteful, he should
quit, not package
it up in
bundles of notes and then write a tell-all book, said Sheila Tate, who was press secretary
to Nancy Reagan and to George H.W. Bush during his presidential
campaign." (He did quit just
after Bush
told him, it was he *Bush) who ordered the outing of Valerie Plame.)
